Definitions of Human Resource Management
1. "Personnel Management is the managerial aspect of industrial relations. It is a term applied to the management of manpower and is concerned with the methods and techniques by means of which the purpose of industry may be the most effectively served through the efficient control of manpower."HUMAN RESOURCE DEVELOPMENT, Revised Edition, Gregorio S. Miranda and Carmelita M. Miranda.
-I agree with this definition because the definition deals about manpower.
2. Personnel Management refers to the handling, directing, and controlling of individual employees rather than of employee as a group. It deals with individual relationships, including employees problems with management with employees as non-organized groups. It covers the acquisition and retention of competent employees through proper recruitment, selection, placement, utilization and development.PERSONNEL AND HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT, Sixth Edition, Perfecto S. Sison.
-I agree with this definition because it deals with employee as an individual and not as a group.
3. "Human Resource Management encompasses those activities designed to provide for coordinate the human resources of an organization."HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT, Sixth Edition, Lloyd L. Byars and Leslie W. Rue.
-I agree with this definition because it's true that the Human Resource Management encompasses activities on how to improve and to provide the human resources of an organization.
4."Human Resource Management or Personnel Management consists of managerial functions of planning, organizing, directing and controlling of the human resources of an organization using the personnel operative functions of: personnel planning; recruitment; selection and placement; training and development: performance rating; compensation; maintenance; and labor relations to accomplish individual, organizational and societical goals or objectives."PERSONNEL MANAGEMENT, THE EFFECTIVE MANAGEMENT OF EMPLOYEES, Pacita Arguelles Abasolo
-This definition really states the functions of Human Resource Management.
5. "Personnel Management may be defined as the process of developing, applying policies, procedures, methods, and programs relating to the individual in the organization."PERSONNEL AND INDUSTRIAL RELATIONS, A MANAGERIAL APPROACH, Fourth Edition, John B. Miner and Mary Green Miner

assyn.# 8

The person we interviewed is Mr. Esmeraldo Lampauog, He is the personnel manager of Ateneo De Davao University.

For Him, "The concept of Human Resouce Management and development depends on the organization and the HR manager views on how to improve their company or organization".

I agree in his concept, because the improvement of the company or in an organization depends on the Human Resource Management, they are the one who finds good employees and also is their to support, and enhance every employee on their company.

SONA 2008

President Arroyo’s State of the Nation Address on July 28, 2008 will be her eighth SONA since assuming the presidency in 2001.
SONA 2008 is also Arroyo’s second to the last SONA; next year’s SONA is her last, before she steps down in 2010.

These are some areas related to Human Resource Management:

" In training, 7.74 million took technical and vocational courses over the last seven years, double the number in the previous 14 years. In 2007 alone, 1.7 million graduated."

-This training would really help a lot, especially to those students who can't afford to make enroll. Also, it will produce competitive employees.

" GSIS pensions have been indexed to inflation and have increased every year since 2001. Its salary loan availments have increased from two months equivalent to 10 months, the highest of any system public or private-while repayments have been stretched out. "

- This benefits would motivate the employees to work harder and double their efforts in their work.

" Our P 350 million training partnership with the private sector should qualify 60,000 for call centers, medical transcription, animation and software development, which have a projected demand of one million workers generating $13 billion by 2010. "

-This project of Pres. Arroyo would really help those people who do not have work and would minimize the number of unemployed Filipinos.

"I hope that she will do all her promises for the improvement of the quality of lives of every Filipino people. But we should not depend only to our President, but also to ourselves.

assignment # 6

“Human Beings are the most important, Patent and Critical Resources of any organization and yet the least understood and the worst managed of its resources”

Human beings are the lifeblood of the organization. People drive business success. Human imagination creates the ideas that move business forward. Human conversations and human effort shape those ideas into products and services for the market. The unique ability of people to listen, respond, persuade, and think for themselves enables companies to sell effectively, serve their customers, and work together with their business partners in rich, satisfying ways that create lasting, high-value relationships.

In an era where some see technology as a force that promises to make people subservient to highly structured or automated processes, business sector sees a better way to unlock the potential of every person. Systems can only create efficiency: It is people who create value. And the more people can do in their roles, the more value they can create. When organization looks ahead, we see a world where organizations succeed by empowering people to harness information, expertise and the possibilities of complex networks with tools that give them insight, reach and opportunities.

We believe that organizations which put people at the center of processes and information are better positioned to meet the challenges of a fast-changing, globally integrated and interconnected world because they have invested in the most agile, resilient and creative asset available to them. Effective Human resources can help organizations realize the benefits of becoming a People-Ready Business with that uniquely strengthens the capabilities and connections of people to create value in their roles.

Human Resource Management is included in the BSCS and BSIT curriculum because, someday we will gona work it.We have this subject in order to teach us or for us to know what are the things to learn or to do behind the Human Resource Management. Because, someday we will apply it, and of course, since we are now using the new technologies, we as an BSCS and BSIT are already part of it. It is our responsibility to make a company successful or fail.

21st century corporation....

The 21st century corporation Sparked by new technologies, particularly the Internet, the corporation is undergoing a radical transformation that is nothing less than a new Industrial Revolution. This time around, the revolution is reaching every corner of the globe and in the process, rewriting the rules laid down by Sloan, Henry Ford, and other Industrial Age giants. The 21st century corporation that emerges will in many ways be the polar opposite of the organizations they helped shape.

Indeed, if you've worked as a manager for at least a decade, you can forget much of what you've learned so far. Prepare to toss out your business-school case studies and set aside many of the time-honored principles that have guided generations of managers. The vast changes reshaping the world's business terrain are that far-reaching, that fundamental, and that profound. ''We're not witnessing just a little change in our economy,'' says David Ticoll, chief executive of Digital 4Sight Systems & Consulting Ltd., a business think tank and consulting firm. ''This is an epochal change in the history of production.''

To survive and thrive in this century, managers will need to hard-wire a new set of rules and guideposts into their brains. Not so long ago, for example, leaders believed that building assets over the long haul guaranteed competitive advantage. In this new century, success will go to the companies that partner their way to a new future, not those that put heavy assets onto their balance sheets. Leaders once thought that creating intense rivalries among competitors motivated their employees and assured success. But in the days to come, a company's fiercest competitor might also be its most important collaborator. Since the dawn of trade, every business leader has wanted to build an enduring enterprise. In the new century, though, many companies will be intentionally ephemeral, formed to create new technologies or products only to be absorbed by sponsor companies when their missions are accomplished.

Morgan Stanley Company Description

One of the world's top investment banks, Morgan Stanley serves up a whole smorgasbord of financial services. The company divides its operations into three primary business segments: institutional securities (capital raising, corporate lending, financial advisory services for corporate and institutional investors); global wealth management group (brokerage and investment advisory services, financial planning for individual investors and businesses); and asset management (asset management services and products including alternative investments, equity, fixed income; merchant banking; investment activities). Morgan Stanley has some $782 billion in assets under management.

Mass Layoffs Updates for May 21, 2008
Morgan Stanley of New York has announced intentions to lay off approximately 5 percent of its employees this year. According to a report by the New York Times, most of the layoffs will be in the United States. Workers at the company's retail brokerage firm will not be affected by the layoffs. Morgan Stanley has laid off 3,000 workers since October and as of the end of February 2008 had just over 47,000 employees. With the exclusion of approximately 8,500 financial advisers in the wealth management division, a 5 percent workforce reduction would equal approximately 2,000 layoffs.
Downsizing means to reduce in number or size. A corporation downsized its personnel in response to a poor economy. In a business enterprise, downsizing is reducing the number of employees on the operating payroll. Some users distinguish downsizing from a layoff , with downsizing intended to be a permanent downscaling and a layoff intended to be a temporary downscaling in which employees may later be rehired. Businesses use several techniques in downsizing, including providing incentives to take early retirement and transfer to subsidiary companies, but the most common technique is to simply terminate the employment of a certain number of people.
